Tips – Get To Know Your Neighbours

Moving to a new home can be filled with new and exciting experiences from decorating your home to discovering the neighbourhood. For those of us who aren’t social butterflies, reaching out to others can be a bit daunting so we have included some easy tips to connect with your new neighbours below.

Ways To Meet Your Neighbours

  • Smile and wave to the neighbours that you see
  • Explore Lake Treeby estate
  • Knock on their door, introduce yourself with a simple hi, how are you?
  • Join local groups (both in person and online)
  • Use the Hello Neighbour Card
  • Attend Lake Treeby community events
  • Join Lake Treeby Residents Facebook group
  • Spend time out the front gardening or playing with your kids/pet
  • Drop by our parklets to swap books, play hopscotch or sit and relax
  • Pick some fruit or herbs from our neighbourhood garden
  • Take your dog for a walk.

  • Give compliments
  • Share information about yourself
  • Offer to help
  • Ask for advice
  • Learn about each other’s culture
  • Say hello to their dog if you are a dog person.

How To Be A Good Neighbour

  • Reduce noise/ music by early evening
  • Let each other know when you are away
  • Check in on your neighbour if you sense any danger
  • Swap contact details for emergencies
  • Help each other when you are away (e.g. collect mail, water plants, bring in bins or help with pets)
  • Send greeting cards.

Organise Activities

  • Organise street events i.e. barbeque, sports game
  • Plan a pet date
  • Host a housewarming party
  • Start up your own online or in person Lake Treeby interest group i.e. book club, art, camping etc.
