Diwali Celebrations 2025

Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word Deepavali and is known as the Festival of Lights. It marks the triumph of light over darkness, of good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

Come and join one of our three events that celebrate this important Indian festival at Lake Treeby.  

Rangoli Design Competition: 13th – 18th October

Get creative and celebrate the beauty of Rangoli by entering or voting on resident Rangoli designs!

Rangoli is a traditional Indian art form of making decorative, ephemeral patterns on the floor or ground using materials like coloured powders, rice flour, sand and flower petals.  Originating from the Sanskrit word ‘rangavalli’ (meaning ‘rows of colours’) it is practiced for festivals such as Diwali and to welcome guests.

How To Enter

  1. Decorate the area just outside your front door with your best Rangoli design
  2. Take a photo
  3. Share it on the Rangoli Facebook Group (Lake Treeby – Rangoli Competition October 2025 OR email it to community@laketreeby.com.au with your name and lot number between 9.00am Monday 13th October and 5.00pm Saturday, 18th October.

Entries close at 5.00pm, Saturday 18th October 2025 and only residents or purchasers at Lake Treeby can enter.

How To Vote

Join or visit the Rangoli Facebook group, check all the designs and simply ‘like’ your favourites.  Anyone can vote – just make sure you vote by 5.00pm Tuesday 21st October 2025.

How To Win

Skill Winner: One “Skill” winner will be selected on Wednesday 22nd October 2025 based on the skill of the entries submitted during the competition period.  This winner will be chosen by selected members of the Lake Treeby Diwali Activity group and Community Development Officer.  The winner gets a $100 Cockburn Gateway Shopping City voucher.

 Most Likes Winner:  A second winner, judged to be ‘Most Liked’ Rangoli winner, will be announced by the Organiser on Wednesday 22nd October 2025. This will be based on number of Facebook likes for the Rangoli competition entry in our Rangoli Facebook Group.  The “Most Likes’ winner will receive a $50 Cockburn Gateway Shopping City voucher.

Pre-Diwali Celebration – Thursday 16th October

Join us at the Sales Centre for a joyful Pre-Diwali celebration!

Residents are invited to take part in an evening of vibrant cultural activities, delicious food and music. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the spirit of Diwali!

Volunteer Helper for Henna Station

We’re also looking for a community member to volunteer at the Henna station during the event.  Henna tattooing is a form of temporary body art created using a natural dye called henna, which is derived from the leaves of the henna plant. The resulting design typically ranges in color from red and orange to brown or burgundy, and it usually lasts for 2 to 3 weeks.

Pre-Diwali Decoration Activity – Sunday 19th October

All residents of Treeby are warmly invited to join in Diwali decoration activities.  Come along to create your own Diwali decorations or just learn about the celebration.  Take home your decorations and add a personal touch to your celebrations!
