Resident Feedback About Parks

We had an exceptional response to our parks online survey from our Lake Treeby residents.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to have their say – we had a total of 179 completed surveys.

Appreciation of Existing Parks

Residents most appreciate green & natural features of parks, particularly grassed areas and simply enjoying natural surroundings.

Similarly, the most liked feature of Lake Treeby’s existing parks was greenery & nature, including shady trees, wildlife, water features and open space.  More greenery, plants and nature was a common spontaneous mention for desirable features of the new park.  However, facilities that enable people to walk, socialise, exercise and play within that natural, green setting are vital.

Desired Features of a New Park

Grassed areas were the most desirable feature of a new park.  Basketball Hoop was the second most desired feature, closely followed by BBQs, Pickleball Court and Table Tennis in the next cluster.  Distance Line Markings on Paths for Fitness, Inground Trampoline and Climbing Wall were the next most popular cluster.

We did also note some demographic variety:

  • Pickleball appealed more to younger residents
  • Cricket Nets appealed more to the Indian community
  • Basketball, inground trampolines, climbing wall and BMX jump appealed more to Australians with children
  • Distance Line Markings were more favoured by those without children.

You also told us that you’d like to see more toddler play equipment, sports amenities and multi-sports courts, shade/seats, a dedicated dog park, night lighting, more outdoor gym equipment, toilets and more general play equipment).

What’s Planned In Our Latest Park

We’re excited that our next park in Harmony precinct has many of the features that you want, including:

  • Large grassed areas, with shade, seating, trees and BBQs
  • Basketball and netball hoops
  • A pickleball court
  • Parkour
  • Exercise Stations
  • Multi-ball games and hit up wall.

What Else Has Being Reviewed

We’ve previously requested approval from the City of Cockburn for a dedicated dog park and toilets, however the City declined this request because these facilities already exist nearby or are planned nearby in the future.

Our sports oval space is also an area that is determined by City of Cockburn and we have provided our survey feedback to them for consideration in line with their policies and guidelines. Here they may consider additional facilities that are complementary to a sports oval with clubrooms.

We’re plotting out distance line markings on paths for fitness across both Harmony precinct and Lake Treeby South.  In the meantime, our walking/running circuits can be found here and are also available on Strava.

We’ll also give strong consideration to the remaining desirable items like toddler play equipment  in our planning for future parks at Lake Treeby.
